Mercury Retrograde: What Does It Really Mean?

It’s funny — as soon as you mention Mercury retrograde to anyone with even a basic understanding of astrology, you’ll often be met with a knowing look, maybe even a bit of fear. It’s almost become a cultural joke. When technology glitches, travel plans fall apart, or misunderstandings arise, we blame it on Mercury retrograde. I used to be the same way. I was so superstitious about it that I once postponed the closing of our second house just to avoid Mercury retrograde.

But now that I’m older and (hopefully) wiser, I’ve realized that Mercury retrograde isn’t just some cosmic curse. It’s actually an opportunity — a cosmic checkpoint of sorts. It forces us to slow down, reflect, and reassess. Without these moments of disruption, how would we know when it’s time to make changes, break patterns, or let go of what no longer serves us? That’s what makes Mercury retrograde so powerful. It’s not just chaos for chaos’ sake — it’s a lesson in duality.

What is Mercury Retrograde?

From an astronomical perspective, Mercury retrograde occurs when the planet Mercury appears to move backward in its orbit. Of course, this is just an optical illusion caused by the relative positions of Mercury and Earth. However, in astrology, Mercury governs communication, technology, travel, and decision-making. So when it’s in retrograde, those areas of life can feel especially turbulent.

There are typically three to four Mercury retrogrades each year, lasting about three weeks each time. Astrologers often advise being cautious during these periods — avoiding major contracts, double-checking plans, and maintaining patience in conversations. But the energy of Mercury retrograde isn’t just about mishaps. It’s about reflecting, revising, and reconnecting.

Why Do Things Go Haywire?

Mercury is the planet of the mind, ruling how we express our thoughts and interpret the world around us. During a retrograde, it’s as if that mental energy turns inward. Messages get lost, intentions get misunderstood, and technology often malfunctions. But instead of seeing these experiences as purely negative, we can view them as signs to pause and recalibrate.

Think of it this way — if a relationship issue resurfaces, or you experience a frustrating setback, it might not be random. Mercury retrograde has a way of spotlighting unresolved issues. It’s a nudge from the universe, urging you to deal with what you may have ignored. The retrograde period asks: What needs to be revisited? What can be refined? Where can you improve?

The Growth Opportunity

In my experience, the themes that surface during Mercury retrograde often reflect what I’ve neglected throughout the rest of the year. It’s like a cosmic review session. And while it can be uncomfortable, it’s also a gift. If something repeatedly goes wrong or old patterns emerge, that’s your cue to pay attention.

Instead of resisting it, try asking yourself:

• What is this situation teaching me?

• Have I been avoiding a difficult conversation?

• Is there something I need to release?

• How can I communicate more clearly?

By using Mercury retrograde as a period of introspection, you can turn obstacles into breakthroughs.

Mercury Retrograde in Different Signs

Each Mercury retrograde occurs in a particular zodiac sign, which can influence the energy of the retrograde. For example:

• Mercury Retrograde in Aries may stir up impulsive reactions or frustration. It’s a time to practice patience and avoid jumping to conclusions.

• In Virgo or Gemini (both ruled by Mercury), communication mishaps are more likely. Be extra diligent in your words and actions.

• In Pisces or Cancer, emotional confusion may rise. Pay attention to your intuition and clarify misunderstandings.

Knowing which sign Mercury is retrograding in can provide additional insight into what themes might arise for you personally.

Final Thoughts

So, the next time Mercury goes retrograde, try not to panic. Instead, take it as an invitation to slow down and reflect. What recurring patterns are showing up? What frustrations are pushing you to grow? Mercury retrograde isn’t here to punish you — it’s here to help you evolve.

And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, that delayed flight or glitchy phone will lead to a moment of clarity you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

After all, sometimes the universe reroutes us to get us exactly where we’re meant to be.

Mediumship

Mediumship and Animals: A Deeper Connection

I’ll freely admit, I prefer animals to humans any day—except for spiders. Spiders are my absolute phobia and will meet the fiery pits of hell.

When I first started exploring mediumship, I didn’t work with animals much. However, connecting with them is quite easy when you set your intention. Often, I find I’m not speaking directly to the animal, but rather through their “keeper.” This could be a past loved one who shared a bond with them, or an ancient ancestor who resonates with their energy, like a Native American spirit connected to a bear.

You can absolutely have a conversation with an animal, and they’ll understand you, even if you don’t communicate on the same verbal level. This is especially important when dealing with injuries or their transition. Explaining their pain or reassuring them it’s okay to let go can be incredibly helpful. Many domesticated pets worry about leaving their owners, which is why they sometimes hold on longer than necessary.

I believe animals are here to raise the collective vibration. They do this by offering unconditional love, companionship, and loyalty to those worthy of it. If you’ve ever had a pet choose you, it’s a profound blessing. That’s your familiar, here to support you during that stage of life. This is also why I believe pets often have shorter lifespans than humans—they come to help us through specific periods.

Let me share a story about our current dogs, Max and Bella. We hadn’t bought a new pet into our home for five years, and I intuitively felt our next pet/s would find us.

About a year and a half ago, a woman posted on Facebook that she couldn’t keep her two dogs. I instantly knew they were meant for us. They checked all the boxes: small, good with children, and hypoallergenic. Finding such a perfect match was enough to convince my husband. He was initially hesitant, but with some gentle persuasion from his mother, he agreed. We met the dogs the next day, and they immediately gravitated towards us. They loved the kids, were calm, and docile. We picked them up the following day, and they’ve been with us ever since. I can’t imagine life without them. If you’re lucky enough to have a session with me, you’ll often find them lounging nearby. They love to be part of healing sessions and will even bark to alert me to negative energy in the space.

I’m sure other pet parents have had similar experiences where their pets sense a person’s kindness or sit beside them when they’re unwell, or protect their space. Or, in my case, my healing sessions. I like to think they found me to up-level their own energy.

Beyond domesticated pets, you can also connect with wild animals. I especially connect to crows and ravens. They are highly intelligent and can telepathically connect with those who wish to communicate. I often set my intention for crows to visit when I need a message from a specific realm, like Lilith, or ask them to help protect our home’s perimeter. Sometimes, I’ve seen hundreds of crows around our street. They’ll truly answer the call of those who are pure in their intention.

If you have a pet at home and want to try connecting with them energetically, it’s best to be relaxed and have them relaxed as well. If you’re in tune with your pet, you’ll notice them sink into your touch, craving that connection. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and place your hand on them, allowing any visuals, feelings, or sensations to wash over you. Remember, these aren’t your own energies; it’s their way of communicating. You can also ask them yes or no to see if they lick your nose, or sit beside you.

Music: The Universal Language of Healing and Connection

Music truly is the language of international love, acceptance, and healing. It transcends language barriers and speaks directly to our bodies on every level. There’s something magical about how music moves through us. Put on some dance music, and you’ll feel your heart pumping, your limbs wanting to move, releasing any pent-up energy. When my kids were younger, we had regular dance parties. They were perfect for shaking off the day’s wiggles and energy before bedtime, and they’ve become cherished memories.

To give you a glimpse into our family, I’m married to a professional musician. It’s incredible how he can tune into the household’s energy and create music from that space. Since our home is filled with music, it significantly influences our moods. We’ve noticed that different tempos, keys, and frequencies can instantly shift the atmosphere.

Fun fact: Did you know that most Disney music is composed in the key of C? C major evokes a bright, happy feeling. Minor scales, on the other hand, create a more moody tone. And when you explore different scales, you can evoke everything from kundalini awakenings to shamanic healings. Higher-frequency music is often in major scales, while minor scales can be very triggering.

After a session, I often recommend clients tune into high-frequency music for an uplifting boost. Each frequency offers unique levels of healing, helping to integrate the work we’ve done and raise your overall vibration. I’ve listed them below.

396 Hz:

• Associated with releasing guilt and fear.

• Linked to the Root Chakra, which governs grounding and security.

417 Hz:

• Believed to facilitate change and undo negative situations.

• Linked to the Sacral Chakra, which relates to emotions and creativity.

528 Hz:

• Often referred to as the “love frequency” or “miracle tone.”

• Associated with DNA repair and transformation.

• Linked to the Solar Plexus Chakra, which governs personal power and confidence.

639 Hz:

• Believed to enhance relationships and promote harmony.

• Linked to the Heart Chakra, which relates to love and compassion.

741 Hz:

• Associated with expression and solutions.

• Believed to cleanse and detoxify.

• Linked to the Throat Chakra, which governs communication and truth.

852 Hz:

• Believed to awaken intuition and return to spiritual order.

• Linked to the Third Eye Chakra, which relates to intuition and insight.

963 Hz:

• Believed to awaken the pineal gland and raise positive energy.

• Linked to the Crown Chakra, which relates to spiritual connection.

Next time you meditate, really feel the music as it flows through your body. Breathe in each note. Each note has its own purpose and is connected to different chakras and meridian points. When you feel like dancing, put on an upbeat tune. Listen to the drumbeat, feel the bass fill your chest, and allow the energy to move through you.

I’m including a link to my Spotify playlist below, featuring songs for various purposes. Feel free to add them to your own collection!

How to Clear Energy Out of Your Space

Clearing energy doesn’t have to be a difficult or time-consuming process. When I first started clearing my space, I liked to add a sense of ceremony to it, believing it strengthened the potency of the clearing. I’ll share some of those practices I used in the beginning.

1. Open Up Your Space

Start by opening doors and windows. If it’s winter and too cold outside, at least open the front and back doors. Five minutes is usually enough to let stagnant energy flow out and fresh energy flow in.

2. Engage All Your Senses

Clearing energy is most effective when it involves all your senses. Here’s how I like to do that:

• Hearing: Play high-vibrational or angelic music from YouTube. If you prefer something more interactive, grab a drum or any instrument that creates a rhythmic beat and drum throughout your space. Don’t forget to include closets, bathrooms, showers, under the stairs, and even attached garages. The sound helps shift any stagnant energy.

• Smell: If you’re sensitive to scents, feel free to skip this step. Otherwise, incense or essential oils can be powerful tools. While candles are an option, they can sometimes smell overly synthetic. Sage and Palo Santo are popular for clearing energy, but it’s important to be mindful of cultural appropriation when using these. Personally, I only use them when I feel called to, and I’ve even dried my own wild sage bundles.

• Sight: Visualization is key. I often imagine Archangel Michael entering my home, filling every corner with his protective white light. Visualizing the light purging any negative energy is a beautiful and effective practice.

• Taste: Staying hydrated is essential. Many people are surprised to learn that spiritual work can dehydrate you, so keep water nearby as you cleanse.

3. Crystals and Salt for Protection

Crystals are fantastic for setting intentions. Simply ask your guides to bless and protect your space using the crystal’s energy. Keep in mind that crystals absorb energy, so they’ll need regular cleansing.

In a pinch (here’s the joke…), salt is a simple and inexpensive protective tool. Sprinkle it around doorways and windows to create a barrier of protection. Salt has been used for centuries to absorb and ward off negative energy.

4. Express Gratitude and Set Boundaries

Once you’ve completed your clearing, I like to pause, express gratitude, and leave the doors and windows open for a couple of minutes. Then, I firmly ask any energy that does not serve my highest good to vacate. You don’t always have to be polite about it — sometimes, a little assertiveness goes a long way. Trust your intuition on how direct you need to be.

Evolving My Practice

Over time, I’ve transitioned from actively clearing my space to putting structures in place that offer ongoing energetic cleansing. Now, I trust my spiritual team to maintain that protection and flow without constant intervention. It’s a beautiful shift to experience.

Clearing your space can be both empowering and restorative. Find what resonates with you and enjoy the lightness it brings.

Demons

Energetic Boundaries in Demon Hunting: Balancing Light and Dark

This is an important topic, and I want to clarify a few things. Many mediums either can’t or won’t engage with the darker aspects of the metaphysical world. Some avoid it entirely, fearing they’ll attract negativity. However, I believe there’s immense power in embracing both light and dark. It’s a truly magical space to inhabit. Understanding hardship makes joy even more profound. Without darkness, we lack the contrast necessary for growth.

I choose to see both.

Do I dwell in the dark? Absolutely not. Darkness is a tool, a means of identifying where healing is needed.

People often ask if I see darkness daily. The honest answer is, I could. Sitting in my car waiting for my children, I could drop the veil and see the lingering shadows.

Why are they there? Like any energy, they’re drawn to certain places. Perhaps a past trauma occurred on that land, or maybe they’re attracted to my ability to see them.

Do I feel compelled to intervene? Not always. If they’re not causing direct harm, I leave them be, trusting they serve a purpose.

Occasionally, in a safe space, my guides will drop the veil to allow me to eradicate a demon. This might happen a couple of times a year. I don’t question why; I trust my team’s guidance. Eradication is often as simple as surrounding them with source energy and sending them to the light. If they’re easily transmutable, it suggests they’ve asked for release, and I’m merely the vessel.

How do I maintain boundaries? My guides are very clear about their intentions. They understand the constant exposure to darkness can create issues for me personally. I’ve battled autoimmune issues, which I believe are linked to my work. This year, with increased client work, prioritizing self-care has become crucial. It’s vital for practitioners to know their limits. For the first time since starting my podcast, I’ve turned down new clients.

Speaking of self-care, id like to share what I personally do as it’s essential for sustaining this work. Everyone is different, of course. You won’t find me doing yoga on the beach, though it sounds ideal. I prefer walking, light running, and weightlifting. I need those bursts of movement to release energy. I eat cleanly (mostly) and rarely drink alcohol. I avoid alcohol entirely when working, as it weakens boundaries. I can’t speak to recreational drugs because I have never used them. I also limit physical contact with others. Casual hugs are not conducive to holding the necessary energetic container. Even a massage can trigger unwanted mediumship readings. Some things, despite my best efforts, I can’t shut out. This is why I keep my circle small and rarely disclose my abilities. I never announce my gifts publicly unless specifically called to do so, which has happened only a few times.

This work is not for the faint of heart. It can be isolating. Many spiritualists avoid me, fearing they’ll attract negativity. Despite my mostly impeccable spiritual hygiene (no one’s perfect), there’s a stigma attached.

Another crucial boundary is self-work. In my experience, demonic or negative attachments exploit weaknesses in your system. If you address those weaknesses, the negativity has nothing to cling to. That’s my biggest piece of advice.

I understand why some might question my chosen path, given its intensity. But the rewards of accessing both worlds are immense. There’s a profound power in facing darkness without fear. I could stand face-to-face with Satan himself and remain confident, knowing my team and I are protected.
