How to Clear Energy Out of Your Space

Clearing energy doesn’t have to be a difficult or time-consuming process. When I first started clearing my space, I liked to add a sense of ceremony to it, believing it strengthened the potency of the clearing. I’ll share some of those practices I used in the beginning.

1. Open Up Your Space

Start by opening doors and windows. If it’s winter and too cold outside, at least open the front and back doors. Five minutes is usually enough to let stagnant energy flow out and fresh energy flow in.

2. Engage All Your Senses

Clearing energy is most effective when it involves all your senses. Here’s how I like to do that:

• Hearing: Play high-vibrational or angelic music from YouTube. If you prefer something more interactive, grab a drum or any instrument that creates a rhythmic beat and drum throughout your space. Don’t forget to include closets, bathrooms, showers, under the stairs, and even attached garages. The sound helps shift any stagnant energy.

• Smell: If you’re sensitive to scents, feel free to skip this step. Otherwise, incense or essential oils can be powerful tools. While candles are an option, they can sometimes smell overly synthetic. Sage and Palo Santo are popular for clearing energy, but it’s important to be mindful of cultural appropriation when using these. Personally, I only use them when I feel called to, and I’ve even dried my own wild sage bundles.

• Sight: Visualization is key. I often imagine Archangel Michael entering my home, filling every corner with his protective white light. Visualizing the light purging any negative energy is a beautiful and effective practice.

• Taste: Staying hydrated is essential. Many people are surprised to learn that spiritual work can dehydrate you, so keep water nearby as you cleanse.

3. Crystals and Salt for Protection

Crystals are fantastic for setting intentions. Simply ask your guides to bless and protect your space using the crystal’s energy. Keep in mind that crystals absorb energy, so they’ll need regular cleansing.

In a pinch (here’s the joke…), salt is a simple and inexpensive protective tool. Sprinkle it around doorways and windows to create a barrier of protection. Salt has been used for centuries to absorb and ward off negative energy.

4. Express Gratitude and Set Boundaries

Once you’ve completed your clearing, I like to pause, express gratitude, and leave the doors and windows open for a couple of minutes. Then, I firmly ask any energy that does not serve my highest good to vacate. You don’t always have to be polite about it — sometimes, a little assertiveness goes a long way. Trust your intuition on how direct you need to be.

Evolving My Practice

Over time, I’ve transitioned from actively clearing my space to putting structures in place that offer ongoing energetic cleansing. Now, I trust my spiritual team to maintain that protection and flow without constant intervention. It’s a beautiful shift to experience.

Clearing your space can be both empowering and restorative. Find what resonates with you and enjoy the lightness it brings.
